Legislators' Retiremet System
Legislators elected or appointed after April 30, 1989 participate in the Legislators' Defined Contribution Plan, funded by a contribution of 5% of salary contributed by the member and 20% of salary contributed by the state. There is no pension benefit payable under the Defined Contribution -- only the fair market value of the member's account, and members receive their contributions when they leave the legislature. A Defined Benefit Plan applies only to those serving in the General Assembly on April 30, 1989, who chose to remain in this plan.
Record keeping for the Legislators' Defined Contribution Plan is done by Great-West Retirement Services. PERF continues to administer the six investment choices offered within the Defined Contribution Plan.
