Projects give graduate students real world business experience and course credit
INDIANAPOLIS (May 4, 2007) - Indiana University Kelley School of Business Indianapolis and the Public Employees' Retirement Fund recently joined forces to develop enriching projects for graduate business students who participate in the Finance Development Enterprise (FIND).
"Our partnership with these businesses, including PERF, will give our students a terrific real world learning experience. It shows that Kelley can be relevant to business in Indianapolis," said Steven Jones, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Finance. "The mission of the MBA FIND Enterprise is to expose students to the finance industry, as well as various career opportunities in the field."
Under the direction of PERF's Investment Department, selected students will complete five projects by the end of spring semester. PERF investment professionals worked with Jones to design projects that will enhance these students' business acumen while accomplishing goals for the fund.
For example, FIND students will conduct a thorough review of PERF's foreign currency exposure, assess how other large public plans treat such investments and recommend a strategy based on this research. Investment professionals will oversee the project and evaluate the students based on the value added.
"We welcome the opportunity to help educate future financial professionals and recognize the talent and ideas that they can bring to the fund," said PERF Executive Director David Adams. "This has been a great opportunity for us to be a part of developing Indiana students who can play an important role in the future economy of our state."
The Public Employees' Retirement Fund (PERF) is a $16.4 billion retirement fund headquartered in Indianapolis that serves the needs of more than 220,000 public employees and retirees throughout Indiana.
