Workshops to Help PERF Members Prepare for Retirement
Workshops answer questions for members approaching retirement
INDIANAPOLIS (October 17, 2007) – The Indiana Public Employees’ Retirement Fund (PERF) is offering free pre-retirement workshops in November and December for PERF fund members who are within 18 months of retirement.
The workshops – at locations throughout the state – are among 200 sessions offered each year. Members may attend either a 9 a.m. or 2 p.m. session.
Attendees of the pre-retirement workshops will receive:
- A personalized benefit estimate
- Information to help them budget for retirement
- Explanation of retirement options
- Step-by-step instructions for completing a retirement application
- Information about working after retirement
- Answers to retirement questions
PERF encourages members to submit retirement applications to PERF no later than six months before their retirement date to ensure a smooth transition between their last paycheck and first benefit payment.
Registration for a workshop is required and seating is limited. Register online at www.perf.in.gov or call PERF toll-free at (888) 526-1687.
Currently, pre-retirement workshops are intended for members of the main PERF fund. Members of other plans – such as police, firefighters and conservation officers – may contact PERF to schedule an individual counseling session, or they may discuss plan specifics with their employer.
