Indianapolis, Indiana (August 25, 2008) - The Indiana Department of Administration and the Indiana Office of Technology today announced the distribution of 385 rebate checks worth a total of $872,581 to local schools, libraries, and other units of government. The checks, which will be distributed beginning this month to those entities that have made computer purchases through the State of Indiana's contract with Dell Computers, range in value from $202 to $39,522, depending on the size of the hardware purchase.
"By working cooperatively with schools, towns, and counties on purchases we all make, the State is keeping the cost of government down," said Governor Daniels. "The less schools pay for classroom computers, the less cities and counties pay for computer hardware, the more money we can keep in taxpayers' pockets."
Rebate values are based on the contract's total purchasing volume. By opening the contract to local governments and schools, the State was able to increase its total contract volume, yielding greater rebates for both the State and local schools and governments. A complete listing of the entities receiving rebates is available at http://www.in.gov/idoa/2748.htm.
The contract with Dell Computers is just one example of the success of Governor Daniels' OneIndiana initiative. Launched in 2005, the Operating with New Efficiency (ONE) Indiana initiative is designed to leverage the state's purchasing power, increasing the state's procurement efficiency and saving Indiana taxpayers millions of dollars.
"Since 2005, we've analyzed spend in more than 40 purchasing categories, reviewed and re-written specs to meet the needs of multiple agencies, and negotiated new and better contracts that leverage the state's aggregate volume," said Indiana Department of Administration Commissioner Carrie Henderson. "The Dell contract is a part of this effort, and these rebates are just one example of the tremendous results we're seeing."
Henderson continued, "Since June 2006 State Agencies have saved over $5.5 million on IT hardware purchased through the Dell contract, and our estimates show the state will save at least $11 million over the life of this contract. We're thrilled that school districts across the state are taking advantage of this contract and the savings it brings."
