U.S. 33 Project in Wolf Lake to Begin August 31 with Restrictions

Stimulus funds pay for added left turn lane project

NOBLE COUNTY, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) Fort Wayne District announces that U.S. 33 at the S.R. 109 intersection will begin its added left turn lane project in Wolf Lake on August 31.  The limits of the project are 500 feet north and 500 feet south of S.R. 109 in Wolf Lake.  Prior to construction, traffic will be restricted on U.S. 33 at the intersection of S.R. 109 to two 10-foot lanes to the east, so that construction may begin on the project's west side.
Work for this project includes pipe installation under the direction of flaggers, curb and gutter, replacement of some sidewalks, widening, asphalt work and construction of approaches.
A tentative traffic switch can be expected in late September to the west side for similar work, with completion in late November. The work schedule is subject to change in the event of inclement weather.
Lane restriction signs will be posted at U.S. 6 at Ligonier and at S.R. 9 at Merriam. Motorists should use caution in this construction zone and obey the posted speed limit of 30-35 mph.
The project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).  The contract was awarded to API Construction Corporation in May based on the company's low bid of $390,000.
