Registration deadline for annual pollution prevention conference is Aug. 31

The deadline for registering for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) and Indiana Partners for Pollution Prevention (Partners) 12th annual Pollution Prevention Conference and Trade Show is Monday, Aug. 31. The event will be held from 7:30a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at Primo's Conference Center in Plainfield, Indiana.

"Pollution Prevention Basics: The Road to Cost Savings" is this year's theme and is hosted by IDEM's Office of Pollution Prevention and Technical Assistance (OPPTA) and the Partners, a public-private partnership between Indiana businesses. OPPTA is dedicated to fostering innovations that drive environmental improvements in industry.

"The information slated for presentation is extremely important for businesses and manufacturers now more than ever," said IDEM Commissioner Thomas Easterly. "With the harsh realities facing business and manufacturers nationwide, any environmentally-friendly cost-saving measures can help Indiana remain competitive in a global economy while protecting our environment."

The keynote speaker is Andy Teplitzky, Federal and State Relations Team Leader, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA). Teplitzky will present "Lessons from the Field: Successful Strategies for Improving Your Organization's Environmental Performance." Also, Bob Pojasek, Pojasek & Associates, will discuss "Pollution Prevention Saves Money through Reducing Operational Risk." Melissa Hulting, from the U.S. EPA Climate Leaders Partnership, will discuss partnership requirements.  Business speakers discussing successful business practices will complete the afternoon sessions.

Besides educational opportunities, Governor's Awards for Environmental Excellence will be presented.  The awards will be given for three categories: Energy/Renewable Resources, Pollution Prevention, and Five Years' Continuous Improvement.
Additional conference information can be found at www.in.gov/idem/4451.htm
