FORT WAYNE - Lt. Governor Becky Skillman today announced a $5.6 million grant for Edward Estates in Fort Wayne. The grant is one of eight she announced as part of the state's $164 million Tax Credit Assistance Program (TCAP), the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's low-income housing program.
"All these projects meet our goals of creating jobs, doing it quickly, and leaving a lasting impact on our state," Lt. Governor Skillman said. "Putting builders to work constructing housing for Hoosiers is a most appropriate use of this money."
The Edward Estates project will create 60 apartments for low- and moderate-income Hoosiers. The development also contains a community center with kitchen, computer room, and fitness center. Keller Development is the recipient of the grant.
In July, Lt. Governor Skillman announced Indiana's $164 million share is $50 million more than any other state received. This is attributable to creative use of disaster relief money by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA), which the Lt. Governor oversees.
This is the first round of grants awarded under the program. IHCDA hopes to have at least 75 percent of the funds awarded by February 2010. The first round of awards include
