This 3-day course of instruction, is limited to LETB Certified Patrol Rifle Instructors. This course is designed for the Patrol Rifle Instructor who has been tasked with implementing an M14 Rifle Program. It will build on the techniques learned in the Patrol Rifle Instructors Course and expand it to the M14 Weapons system.
The instructor will be given a thorough understanding of the nomenclature, operation, disassemble, assembly, function, marksmanship fundamentals and skills, care and cleaning and use of the M14 Rifle.
Both the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and Camp Atterbury will used for this training.
At the conclusion of this course the student will:
1. List the nomenclature of the M14;
2. Demonstrate how to safely operate the M14 on the range and in the field;
3. Demonstrate how to safely load and unload the M14 in a tactical and administrative
mode;
4. Demonostrate and list how to disassemble, clean, lubricate and assemble the M14;
5. Demonostrate marksmanship fundamentals, enabling the student to accurately shoot and
hit designated targets;
6. Utilize different firing positions (off-hand, kneeling, sitting, prone and barricade);
7. Perform immediate action drills to return the M14 to service; and
8. Demonstrate deployment considerations and tactics with the M14.
Required equipment:
. M14, M14A1, M14A2, M1A1 or AR10 rifle
. Three (3) serviceable magazines
. 300 rounds - 7.62x51 ammunition designed for the M14 platform
. Eye and hearing protection, shooting mat, 20x spotting score (recommended)
. Appropriate wet and cold weather gear
. Any agency specific deployment gear
. Quality cleaning equipment
ILEA Fee: $200 Residents/$125 Commuters for Indiana Residents
$240 Residents/$150 Commuter for Out-of-State Residents
If a department needs to cancel a student from an ILEA in-service class, it must be done no later than five (5) working days prior to the start of the class. If a student does not show up or cancellation is made any closer to the start of the class, the agency will be responsible for payment in full for this class.
