INDIANAPOLIS-Newly elected State Senator Mark Stoops (D-Bloomington) will be sworn into office on Tuesday, November 20 at the Indiana Statehouse. Sen. Stoops was elected earlier this month to represent Senate District 40 which encompasses most of Monroe County including the City of Bloomington.
Sen. Stoops brings extensive local legislative experience to the office, having served as President of the Monroe County Commissioners and as a member of the Monroe County Council. He is a graphic design and marketing consultant and restores historic buildings in the Bloomington area.
Sen. Stoops and his wife Kara reside in Bloomington. He is the father of four children.
Tuesday is the first official day of the 118th Indiana General Assembly. Known as Organization Day, the single day session provides an opportunity for new rules to be adopted and for legislators to make arrangements for the upcoming legislative session. The 2013 legislative session will begin January 7.
