Governor Names New Chair of Parole Board

INDIANAPOLIS (January 5, 2007)  Governor Mitch Daniels has selected Christopher (Chris) Meloy as the chairman of the Indiana Parole Board. Meloy will fill the remainder of the term of Ray Rizzo, who retired last month. The term ends July 1, 2009.

"Chris knows the criminal justice system and has extensive experience in our correctional system. That will serve him well in this role," said Daniels.

Meloy, of Indianapolis, is the superintendent of the Indiana Women's Prison. He supervises more than 192 employees and is responsible for 367 offenders. He has served in the correctional field for nearly 30 years.

"Mr. Meloy has been a leader and mentor for staff and administrators during his long career in corrections. His experience, commitment and enthusiasm for public service are admirable," said Commissioner J. David Donahue.

"I'm very excited about this new opportunity. I appreciate Governor Daniels and Commissioner Donahue's confidence in my abilities," Meloy said. "The role of parole board chair carries great responsibility. I will work hard to make the best decisions possible while keeping the rights of victims and the safety of the public as my first priority."

Meloy's appointment is effective January 8.
