INDIANAPOLIS (March 28, 2008) -The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration's (FSSA) Division of Mental Health and Addiction (DMHA) announced their support of the 2008 Suicide Prevention Conference, "Suicide Prevention: Are you gambling with your life?" The conference is being organized by The Behavioral Health and Family Studies Institute of Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
"The conference will be a wonderful learning opportunity for individuals, organizations, and communities around the state," said DMHA Director Cathy Boggs. "We expect the conference to motivate people to implement and become involved in prevention programs. Early intervention can provide the hope that is needed to help prevent lives from being lost."
The conference will increase understanding of suicide prevention, as well as identify intervention strategies. A panel of suicide survivors will offer their testimonies and field experts will lead different breakouts throughout the day. The sessions will address alcohol use, gambling issues, firearm accessibility, and antidepressants in their relationship to suicide. Paul Quinnett, Ph.D. and President/CEO of the QPR Institute in Spokane Washington will give the keynote address.
The all-day event will take place in Indianapolis at the Indiana Government Center-South on April 3. Attendance is $40. For more information on the conference or to register, call 260-481-6691.
