Protect Your Pockets Workshops
Secretary of State Todd Rokita, Indiana's leading expert on investor education, is providing free investor education workshops to consumers in Indiana communities around the state.
Protect Your Pockets highlights a basic approach to gaining wealth through saving and investing—encourage families to talk about money together and help raise awareness about the resources the Secretary of State's office offers to the people of Indiana.
Protect Your Pockets workshops are an important component of the Indiana Investment Watch program developed by the Secretary of State's office. Indiana Investment Watch is a broad-based campaign that promotes basic financial awareness, and arms Hoosiers with the tools needed to prevent fraud. Protect Your Pockets workshops are one of the many types of investor education outreach funded by this program.
Workshop presentation topics will include information appropriate for all Hoosiers, from beginners to experienced investors. The agenda includes a keynote message on avoiding fraud and breakout sessions on investing basics, homebuyer basics, retirement planning, money management and personal budget development. Qualified financial professionals will lead presentations and answer audience questions.
Presentations include:
- Keynote - Hear from a Hoosier who lost over $200,000 in an investment scam
- Financial Fraud – Common Scams and How to Avoid Them
- Savings and Money Management – Getting on Track Toward a Better Financial Future
- Family Finances – Securing Your Family's Future
- Mortgage Awareness – Homebuyer Basics and Understanding Loan Brokers
- Investing Basics – Understanding the World of Investing and the Concept of Risk

Participants will receive investor education materials, presentation handouts and contact information for various financial literacy organizations. The featured keynote speaker will be a Hoosier who lost over $200,000.00 in an investment fraud scam. A light lunch will be served.
