About Indianapolis
Nicknamed the "Crossroads of America" for our abundance of interstates and ease of access, Indianapolis is the 12th largest city in the United States and the second largest in the Midwest after Chicago. Indianapolis, the state capital of Indiana, is home to 1.6 million people and is one of the fastest growing regions in the United States. This serves meeting planners well because Indianapolis has a large audience to draw from and a very strong hotel community to accommodate out of town attendees.
Indianapolis is the auto racing capital of the world and home of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which opened in 1909. The famous track hosts the two largest attended sporting events in the world each year, the Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400. As part of the racing tradition in this city, the Indiana State Fairgrounds hosts the annual Hoosier 100 in May and has a history of racing on its 1-mile oval.
In 2012, Indianapolis hosted Super Bowl XLVI. This marked the first time the Super Bowl has ever been in Indiana and featured a matchup between the New England Patriots and New York Giants. The Indiana State Fairgrounds hosted several high profile events with the Super Bowl, including the NFL Commissioner's Party, the VH1 Pepsi Fan Jam, a live taping of CMT Crossroads, and the Bart Starr Award Breakfast.
Our city offers something for everyone - our many attractions include The Children's Museum of Indianapolis (the largest children's museum in the world), The Indianapolis Zoo (ranked among the nation's top 10 zoos), and the Indianapolis Museum of Art—one of the country's 10 largest and oldest general art museums.
